La Danza de los Tractores

La Danza de los Tractores

(The dance of tractors)

Performance
2024, July 26
Valencia, Spain

Material: 5 tractors, soil

Photos: Ana Veintimilla, Andrés Blasco (Dr. Truna), Carolina Aleixandre.

A heartfelt thanks to the wonderful five tractor drivers, especially Aurelio, for participating with enthusiasm and their usual professionalism in this project; without them, this performance would not have been possible.
Thank you as well to the neighborhood association: Associaciò De Veïns Font d’En Corts,  for their support and presence.

The Dance of the Tractors makes the tractors, their drivers, and the huerta (cultivated area) of Valencia the protagonists.
This performance highlights the connection between agricultural machinery and the natural environment, emphasizing the importance of agricultural labor, the people who carry it out, their bond with the land, and the significance of the huerta for the city of Valencia.
In fact, the tractors, with a touch of irony and self-irony, perform a dance in the huerta. Following a choreography, the tractors move through the space of the huerta, creating a dance that symbolically unites them with the land.
The performance not only focuses on the movement of the tractors; the sound they produce and the element of the huerta soil itself also play a significant role, creating a unique sensory experience that highlights the connection between technology and nature.
Directing and choreographing the dance, I position myself at the center of the huerta to be an integral part of the act.
